The Top Choice for Hardwood, Carpet, and Tile Flooring in Hanahan

Can you think of a feature in your home that you use every day but rarely pay attention to? If you said your home's flooring, you'd be spot on. Most homeowners overlook their floors unless they're unkempt or dirty. However, the truth is that your flooring is the largest design element of your home, making it a crucial feature that deserves attention. As one of the first features we notice subconsciously, it must look great and impress guests.

While aesthetics is always important, your flooring must also be functional. Different rooms require different demands, and your flooring should meet those demands to prevent early wear and tear. For instance, high-traffic areas like hallways and kitchens need durable flooring materials that can handle daily use. Conversely, areas like your utility room, kitchen, and bathrooms need flooring options that are resistant to water. By balancing practicality and design, you can have a beautiful home that is stunning but also stands the test of time.

The challenge for most homeowners is choosing the right flooring materials and finding a flooring company that can help oversee that process. That's where Heritage Flooring Company comes into play. Whether you're looking to invest in high-quality hardwood flooring for a new construction project or you need to remove and replace your current design, Heritage Flooring is the expert to call.

Tile Flooring in Hanahan: Classically Sleek and Purposeful

Tile has a long history in the realm of interior design. It's versatile and can be utilized to introduce a vibrant backsplash in your kitchen, form an art-deco focal point on a wall in the living room, or offer long-lasting waterproof flooring in your bathroom. When compared to decorative wall or backsplash tile, tile flooring needs to withstand constant foot traffic, dirty shoes, pet accidents, and more, all while maintaining its beauty.

The good news is that the majority of tile is inherently resistant to water, slips, and stains, which is why most homeowners opt for tile in their kitchens and bathrooms. At Heritage Flooring Company, we offer a large selection of premium marble, ceramic, and other tile materials for your kitchen and bathroom needs.

Bathroom vs. Kitchen: Which Type of Tile is Best?

At Heritage Flooring Company, we're often asked which type of tile is best for a home's bathroom versus kitchen. While no two homeowners will ever have the same needs, ceramic tile is generally great for kitchens, while porcelain is better for bathrooms. Ceramic is the most popular choice for kitchen tile flooring because it's available in a wide range of colors, it's low maintenance, and durable. It's often glazed to make cleaning up spills and stains easy, although it's less hard compared to porcelain tile.

Porcelain tile is commonly used for bathroom tile flooring due to its waterproof nature, trendiness, and cost-effectiveness. It's better for rooms with high moisture levels, as it has a lower water absorption rate compared to ceramic. Depending on the style, porcelain tile can range from richly textured for a non-slip surface to smooth marble tones.

The best course of action when choosing tile is to try and balance functionality and aesthetics. Ultimately, find a tile that matches your personal design taste while meeting your household needs. Having trouble choosing tile for your home? Heritage Flooring staff are trained to help you find the best choice for your home and family. We'd be happy to offer our opinion - just give us a call or visit our showroom to get started.

Carpet Flooring in Hanahan is Perfect for a Plush, Comfy Feel

There are few feelings as comforting and relaxing as digging your toes into a plush, soft carpet after a long day at work. Carpet flooring has been around for decades and is one of the most common and popular choices when it comes to home aesthetics. From high-pile carpet options for maximum comfort to low-pile choices best suited for professional environments, carpet is both versatile and budget-friendly. At Heritage Flooring Company, we carry a select line of premium carpet options in multiple styles & patterns to fit your lifestyle needs.

Top 5 Biggest Benefits of Carpeted Flooring for Your Home?

Wondering why you should consider carpet flooring? Here are some of the biggest benefits that our clients tell us about:

Have you ever lived in an apartment where you could hear everything that the people above you and beside you were doing? Even if you tiptoe through the house, you're making noise. This is especially true if you have tile, vinyl, or hardwood floors in your living spaces. Even socked feet can sound like horse hooves when there's nothing dampening your steps.

Whether you own a multi-story home, a condo, or just have really thin walls, carpets can make sure that you're not disturbing other people in your house. Carpets will also dampen the normal floor sounds like creaks. Old floors often creak, but those creaks are more obvious when you have hardwood floors.

Let's be honest: Purchasing new flooring is a big decision. But if you choose the right carpet, it won't cost as much as installing hardwood floors, which can be quite expensive. While hardwood floors look fantastic, not everyone can afford them. Most folks end up using rugs on their hardwood floors for added comfort, but they can be expensive, too.

In contrast, carpet installation is often less expensive and more affordable. If your budget allows, you can opt for fancier carpets. Whether you prefer something sleek and unobtrusive or you love the look of retro shag carpets, Heritage Flooring offers options that will suit your budget.

Concerned about safety in your home? Consider carpet flooring. If someone in your home has fallen before, you understand how alarming it can be. While carpet won't prevent accidents, it can reduce the impact and provide a softer landing. Carpet is also ideal if you have babies or toddlers. As they learn to walk, toddlers often tumble. With carpet, their falls are less painful.

It's also gentler for crawling babies and those doing tummy time. If you or your children enjoy sitting on the floor, carpet is a practical choice. Why sit on hard surfaces when you can relax on a soft, cushioned carpet? Plus, opting for a rug would mean an additional expense for your flooring.

If you pull up your flooring and find that your floors are not as even as you thought, carpets are a great solution. Uneven floors are very noticeable with hardwood or tiles, but with carpets, you can still feel them, just not see them. The softness of the carpet will also help to minimize the feel of the uneven floor. Carpets in certain colors can also conceal stains. This is one reason why many apartments opt for carpets.

Carpet is an excellent source of warmth for the floor, making it a suitable option for cold bedrooms or plain offices. Additionally, carpet acts as an insulator. The combination of the carpet and its under-padding serves as an extra insulation layer in your home. Depending on the weight and quality of your carpet, it may even contribute to increasing the R-value of your home.

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) — As you're going through the neighborhoods in Hanahan you'll see several signs that read "Say yes to moratoriums" and "Say no to more apartments and rezoning."

Hanahan's mayor says she believes the signs came about after a proposal for a rezoning to build an apartment complex.

However, the city council voted that proposal down.

Proposal plans to build more housing in a newer Hanahan community are bringing up concerns for those living there.

READ MORE: "17 acres of land in Hanahan by Tanner Hall causes dispute between neighbors and developer."

It is a close-knit city many people enjoy calling home.

"I love this place," said Jeremy Watts, who lives in Bowen Neighborhood. "I mean, Hanahan is wonderful. It's a wonderful place to raise children. It's a wonderful place to live."

With proposals to develop, neighbors are making their voices heard by placing signs throughout the Bowen community against the possible additions.

"There's major concerns with putting more multifamily homes back here," Watts said. "You really increase the population, you really increase the traffic patterns, and you really put a strain on the schools."

READ MORE: "Proposed Hanahan development heads to planning commission."

Safety and infrastructure are some of the concerns. However, neighbors like Watts want to see responsible growth.

"I think that people are expecting development, but I think that they're looking for infrastructure to increase, different roads, avenues to come in and out of this area," Watts said.

As Mayor Christie Rainwater encourages this sort of growth for the city, she hopes neighbors keep an open mind too.

"I think some of them are hoping that the developer doesn't get to develop any further, and that's where the signs are popping up," said Rainwater. "I think what it needs to be is more of a conversation. How do we do this well? How do we honor the property rights of those who own the property while still working with those who now live there and wanna make sure that the quality of life in our city remains just as amazing as it is now? The good thing is our council has that same goal. We wanna maintain that amazing quality of life and hopefully, we will do that through responsible growth."

READ MORE: "Hanahan neighborhood residents demanding new rezoning plan be ditched."

The "say no to more apartments in Bowen" signs are found within and around the Waterfront Village.

The community is filled with single-family homes, apartments and even commercial development.

Responsible growth is the key factor Rainwater says will keep the city alive and thriving.

"There's some things that are still being planned out," Rainwater said. "There are people that live there that don't want that and it's understandable. We need to figure out what's gonna work well for those that are there while still honoring the property rights of the developer."

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCIV) — A Hanahan family is getting an outpouring of support after losing everything in a house fire.

A fire spread through the Stewarts' Rembert Drive home Sunday in the blink of an eye. Neighbor Mike Hinson said he dropped what he was doing to help because he knew it was right.

"Meghan was in a panic," Hinson said. "I brought the kids in, found them something to watch on TV, and made them a little snack just to kind of get their minds off stuff."

A fire gutting their home is just the latest obstacle for Meghan had Bobby Stewart.

Meghan fought breast cancer for five years.

Bobby is recovering from surgery.

Long-time neighbor Hinson said he had to help his fellow neighbors, remembering the support the family gave him when his wife had cancer.

"Two years ago, my wife passed away, and so many people come together for me," Hinson said. "You can't give that back. She helped my wife, Sheila, get through it the best that she could. And we did the same for her, just returning what it is that we had borrowed."

His front porch is now a sort of landing zone.

People are stopping by with bags filled with clothes and shoes for the kids, toiletries, and other items.

All to make life a little easier for the Stewarts.

Hinson said this is what the Hanahan community is all about.

"These people right here are the people who are doing it for the right reasons," Hinson said. "You know, it's coming from the heart. All in all, if nothing else, they feel a lot of love."

A GoFundMe for the Stewarts was created. It can be seen here.

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCSC) - Despite Hurricane Helene making landfall in Florida, the storm’s winds toppled trees, leaving a Lowcountry mobile home a total loss.

“By the time you really heard something it was over. Bam! And that was it. It sounded like a pinecone hitting the top of the trailer or something and all of a sudden bam it was gone,” Leonard Hollins says.

He was inside the mobile home at about 5:30 a.m. Friday when the trees came down. He says he was lucky to be in the middle room, where he was physically not hurt and able to get out the destruction. The oak and pine toppled in the winds, hitting each other and leaving the home in tatters.

“My dad’s been living here since ‘86. He got real ill because of cancer and stuff, so I moved in to help him out, and he passed away about three months ago,” Hollins says. “And if he didn’t pass away where he was sitting at the table breakfast or drinking coffee this morning, it would have got, the tree would have got him.”

The trees crushed a new car parked out front that was just two weeks old. Hollins is calling it a total loss as well.

“Forty-something years, I go to sleep at night thinking one day a tree is going to come through this bad boy and here it was,” Hollins says.

Jamie Lewis lives at the corner of Old Pointe Road and says his family owned the land for the trailer park for a while. It is his routine to walk around and check out any damage and check on people after a storm.

“Our benchmark is pretty much Hugo, because I was here during Hugo, and actually this, we had some damage during that, but this is worse than that. We came across this, and it’s probably the worst I’ve seen,” Lewis says.

His daughter, Caisa, went on the walk with him and says overnight she could tell how strong the winds were.

“I remember last night, I woke up kind of at like 3 a.m. because I heard something,” she says. “And then I, like, started hearing the rain kind of going hard, then softer. And I kept thinking some of something was coming towards me.”

When she and her dad came up on Hollins’ home, they were shocked as well.

“It was crazy seeing this for the first time in person because I’ve never actually seen a real-life storm, like there’s that in person. It’s like, way worse than Ian was,” she says.

Many people in the neighborhood have lived there a long time. Hollins says he knows most all of his neighbors and it’s really a crazy sight to see his home destroyed while every other on the street is still standing. Hollins says he isn’t the kind of person to ask for help, but he’s not exactly sure what will happen next.

“I’m going to reach out to some friends and families and see if I can stay with them for a little while, until I get a place to live,” he says. “But other than that, I don’t know. It’s like everything somehow to see you don’t know what to do.”

Hollins, his neighbors and his brother and sons say they are grateful he made it out physically unharmed.

HANAHAN, S.C. (WCSC) - The City of Hanahan has big plans in store for two of its parks.

The city plans to enhance Hawks Nest Park, located behind Bowen’s Corner Elementary, by adding a covered pickleball court and stadium seating that would fit 583 people to their sports turf field.

They also plan to finish the construction of Steward Street Park and once it is finished it will include a kayak launch, ramp, floating dock, promenade, and pavilion.

Hanahan Mayor Christie Rainwater says that when the park is completed it will include everything visitors need for the perfect afternoon.

The city invested $15 million to update and finish both parks. Rainwater says there was a referendum several years ago where over 75 percent of voters voted yes to adding both parks.

They city has also received $1,150,000 in state funding to go toward both parks. Rainwater says they have also received funds through several different partnerships.

Hawks Nest Park opened in May 2023 and with 53 acres of land, it is used for many outdoor activities and sporting events. Rainwater says that the land was donated to the city by the federal government.

“And then the city jumped in and created what could be, and then the school board came along and said we want to add some stuff, and then the county said there was a gap lets jump in and add this and now we’re here today sharing what’s next in this park and it’s because the state has come together to say we want to add into this pot too,” Rainwater says.

Rainwater says the new additions to Hawks Nest will be perfect for their park-loving community.

Autoplay

“I think this park is such a special place because we’re going to have an area where people will make stories. They will make them with their families, with their neighbors, with their friends,” Rainwater says. “It’s going to be awesome memories.”

One Hanahan resident, Jason Davis, says he and his children visit Hawks Nest Park on a weekly basis and that they are thrilled with the city’s plans.

“We’re excited that they are adding pickleball. My son and I and wife all play pickleball, the little ones have as well. They also enjoy playing pickleball,” Davis says. “We’re thankful to have a community that has something like this.”

Rainwater says that the City of Hanahan grew by 60% from the years 2010 to 2020, but that their park and recreation program hadn’t grown with it, so she says these projects are needed.

“I think it’s important that when you finish a project you don’t put a period, but a comma, and you say how can we continue to improve on it and make it better. These were things that were being requested. We knew there was an additional need. We had room for the growth, and we partnered with people that could help make that dream a reality,” Rainwater says.

The Steward Street Park is still underway and Rainwater says the city is hoping to have it completed no later than 2025. The city has already begun construction for the Hawks Nest Park additions.

POWDERSVILLE – Walk-off obstruction.

In a wild and controversial finish to a classic in the Class AAA state championship series, Powdersville baseball beat Hanahan, 5-4, in 12 innings Wednesday to force a deciding game in the best-of-three series.

Powdersville appeared to have a runner thrown out at home to end the 12th inning. But Hanahan catcher Hudson Sprovero was called for obstruction, not giving runner Kolbe Giles a lane to the plate.

Hanahan’s brief elation for a narrow escape turned into disbelief and then disgust as the Hawks watched Powdersville celebrate its first win in a state championship.

“I feel for those guys,” Powdersville coach Wade Padgett said. “Two really good teams playing a great game. I hate that it ended that way. But we’ll get to play a third game.”

Powersville (24-10) and Hanahan (30-4) will settle it at 3 p.m. Saturday in a neutral site game at Gilbert High School.

Hanahan scored three in the top of the seventh to take a 4-3 lead and Powdersville forced extra innings with a run in the bottom half. With two outs and Giles on first base after a walk in the 12th, Jack Hunsinger also worked a walk on a full-count pitch to bring up Chance Kennedy, the team’s leadoff batter.

Kennedy drilled a line-drive single to center and Giles raced around third toward the plate, Sprovero caught the throw on the base line and waited there for Kennedy.

“We were going to be aggressive because that’s how we’ve had to win games the whole season,” said Padgett, who was also the third-base coach who waved Kennedy home. “The players and fans will probably tell you that I’ve been really good at getting us thrown out at the plate. But when you’re in the 12th inning and you have a chance to score, you have to try.”

SABRES SWEEP:Brothers hit homers as Southside Christian baseball wins third straight state championship

Eli Hudgins pitched 6.2 innings of shutout relief of starter Blane Jordan. Hudgins came on in the seventh and allowed a two-run single to tie the game, but he ended that frame with two strikeouts and gave up only one hit the rest of the way.

Hanahan left a runner on third base in the 11th as Powdersville first baseman Landon Fowler knocked down a wild throw on a grounder to keep the Hawks off the board.

Powdersville had the bases loaded and one out in the eighth. Kennedy singled, took second on an errant picked try and third on another. Hanahan intentionally walked two batters and got two infield outs to escape unharmed.
